Why So Many? Another Joker Movie Will Be Filmed This Year

Brace yourself for another Joker film.

Last month it was announced that serial over-actor, Jared Leto, was going to get his own standalone Joker film, and it was met with much derision.

It wasn't only because his portrayal of the Joker didn't win any new fans, but because there was already, reportedly, another Joker movie in the works with Joaquin Phoenix as the lead.

Today comes confirmation that Phoenix's movie is really happening. (And we thought You Were Never Really Here was as close as he'd get to a superhero flick.)

Apparently, the difference between them is that Jared Leto's Joker pic will be set in the DC Universe while Phoenix's will be an origin story that doesn't exist within that universe. K.

Phoenix's Joker movie is being painted as more of a crime drama, which will be more experimental and darker in tone.

Despite the alleged differences, a lot of people are a bit confused why Warner Pictures gave the green light to two Joker movies so close to each other in production.

$55 million budget ? And zero continuity to DC’s existing cinematic universe ? Eeeeek https://t.co/ClXQnW4TgJ

Torn between my opinion that there shouldn't be an origin story for this character and my love of the casting here. He's one of the best/weirdest actors alive and I think he's going to be fantastic in this role. https://t.co/rVWHad7Vev

Why does DC do the things it does? They actually have two different Joker movies in development with two different actors, most likely in two different “universes”. Why? Why? WHY?! https://t.co/WhHwp9IySU

But the real question is: Who's going to out-act the other?

So would Jared Leto get into character by acting like Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker who acting like Jared Leto’s Joker, who was inspired by Jared Leto’s Joker acting like Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker acting as him? pic.twitter.com/RpcGNosX8a
