Five Things to Look for When Buying a New Phone/Phone Plan in 2024

Konec to the best phone and phone plan for 2024 🤳

This article is presented in partnership with Konec Mobile.

Everyone’s got a new year checklist. Buy new school books: check. Schedule classes for the first semester: check. Get new phone…not yet.

It’s the new year and if you're looking for an upgrade, it's time to leave that trusty (but crusty) mobile phone in 2023.

But in 2024 there are a million things to consider when it comes to upgrading your mobile. So whether you’re tossing up between a prepaid plan or contract, we break down what you should consider when buying a new phone and phone plan.

1. Getting a good deal.

Nobody wants to pay an arm and a leg for a new phone or plan. So when phone shopping, scoring a cheeky student deal is exactly what we want.

If you’re a Student Edge member, you can score the Konec 365 Day Plan for $180 and save $79 on the original $259. FYI, if you’re constantly using up all your data your prayers have been answered: the Konec 365 plan comes with 259GB of data for the year.

To break it down: for less than 50 cents a day you’ll be covered for the whole year. Sounds like a WIN to us.

Check out more info on this deal here.

2. Whether you want a prepaid or unlocked phone.

If you’re not down with phone terminology, a prepaid mobile device is tied to a specific network, while an unlocked phone can be used on any telco network.

So if you’re looking for a new phone as well as a plan, you might want to consider grabbing a prepaid phone so you get the best of both worlds and save 💸

If you're looking for flexibility, you can choose from both prepaid or buy a phone outright and unlocked with Konec Mobile. You can get a prepaid OPPO A57s for just $249 with the Konec Essential Plan, or a prepaid OPPO A78 5G for $299 with the Konec Everyday Plan.

Or if you have your sights set on buying a phone outright, save $130 and get an OPPO A38 for just $129. To cash in these savings on a phone, you'll need to pair it with a $60 Konec 90 Day or $259 365 Day Plan.

There are also other unlocked phones on offer (with huge savings to unlock) like the OPPO A78 or the OPPO Find N2 Flip.

3. Choosing a good network.

No matter what phone you choose, you’ll want to connect to a trusted network provider.

All plans from Konec Mobile use the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network, a trusted Australian network. Telstra not only covers over 98.8 per cent of Australia's population, but Telstra Wholesales’s 5G reaches 75 per cent of all Australians.

4. Deciding what plan you need.

Like salt and pepper, Barbie and Ken, or Tom Holland and Zendaya, every phone needs a phone plan.

Depending on if you buy a phone through a prepaid deal vs. on a contract, different phones come with different plans. Alongside considering what phone you want, you’ll also want to consider what type of phone plan you want.

Konec Mobile have a range of flexible prepaid plans designed to suit the needs of student life. You might want the flexibility of a 30 or 90-day plan. Or you might prefer to secure a 365-day plan and not worry about recharging for a whole year.

Plus, there’s no lock-in contracts with Konec so you can always change plans whenever you’d like.

5. How much data you need.

In a world where we all love scrolling on Insta and TikTok, streaming on Netflix, or creating content on the go, we all need some data.

If you know you’ll be using a lot of data, make sure you consider this when you’re buying a phone/phone plan.

Every Konec Mobile phone plan has data inclusions – use, save or share the data you pay for! You can bank up to 500GB of data you don’t use, or gift up to 50% of data to your mates who are also on the Konec Mobile network.
