Here’s What Baby Boomers Don’t Get About Millennials (Psst, It's A Lot)

We asked our members to run down the reasons. Let Daniel count the ways…
"Back in my day..." That's what comes to mind when I think of our older generations - the stereotypical, grouchy, moaning type.
I know the majority of baby boomers probably aren't like that, but that's what springs to mind almost instantly. And it irritates me.
Even though many grandparents and baby boomers are accustomed to a modern lifestyle, there are always those who'll moan and whine about the "good old days".
We don't need to walk twelve miles to get to school, over hills, through the snow, or rain, or flood, or the fires of Mount Doom. We've evolved. More things are available to millennials, and to try and bring us down because it's easier and different to what you dealt with isn't helping society.
"Respect your elders." A fair enough statement, true, but one that lacks a few fundamental human rights. I have absolutely no problem being courteous to baby boomers. But if I am disrespected because I'm young, or inexperienced, or too "baby-faced to understand", then consider my respect withheld.
You want respect? Then, respectfully, earn it from me. Please. I will not be made to respect you as an authority and superior figure in order to be respected as a person, no matter my age.
"Don't talk back. We were never allowed to talk back as children." Here's the biggest difference between baby boomers and millennials. From what we've been told of these days, teenagers were expected to sit still, listen up, and stay silent at all times. The entire country may as well have been a military camp. But it wasn't, was it? And it shouldn't be today.
Millennials are finally taking the freedom of choice that's always been available, but never openly presented. We're allowed to dye our hair pink, green, blue, in rainbows, or even as a meme of John Cena. We can dress the way we want: conservative, formal, informal, casual, powerful. We can make our own career, earn money digitally and rebuild ourselves online.
We can do all this, and so much more, and not just because of advanced technology. We can do it, because we, as a population worldwide, have finally realised that the millennials can define and create whatever future we hold.
That's what baby boomers truly don't get about millennials - we're the ones who now hold the power.
