Watch the World Cup for Free: SBS to Air All Group Stage Matches; Optus Offering Refunds

Optus has agreed to let SBS air all remaining Group Stage matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement, it was revealed that Optus and SBS "mutually agreed" to simulcast all matches on the free-to-air broadcaster until Friday 29 June.

Though Optus chief executive Allen Lew believes his organisation has solved the technical woes that saw many punters stuck with buffering screens early in the Cup, he claims this latest decision comes after hearing "feedback from the Australian soccer fans". (This is a very polite description of the primal screaming that was occuring on social media over the weekend...)

Optus Sport will take over streaming the majority of matches when the World Cup moves on to the elimination Round of 16, with a select few matches still airing on SBS.

However, Optus will make their paid streaming option free to all Australians until 31 August (a full month after the World Cup Final on 15 July).

Optus will also refund the $15 fee to anyone who had previously signed-up and paid for the Optus Sport broadcasts.

Basically, this means you can watch the entire FIFA World Cup for free… umm, just like you used to be able to.

Remember, the Socceroos face off against Denmark tonight at 10pm AEST. On SBS!
