WA Students Got Their ATAR a Day Early: Here’s How They Reacted to the Results

Surprise!

Perth students were spared one more sleepless night by the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC), who dropped their Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATAR) online a day early.

(Just in case you somehow didn’t know WACE results were going live this week, you can get yours here.)

According to TISC officer Wayne Betts, 139 students had seen their results within one minute of the website going live, suggesting there was a whole lot of refreshing going on.

Approximately 12,170 WA school leavers achieved an ATAR in 2017, Perth Now reports.

However, only 16 students notched the ultimate ATAR of 99.95.

Those students will be able to pick from some of the hardest courses in the state, including University of Western Australia's (UWA) Bachelor of Medical Science (ATAR 99), Murdoch University's Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (ATAR 98), UWA's Bachelor of Law (ATAR 96), UWA's Bachelor of Psychology (ATAR 95) and Curtin University's Bachelor of Advanced Science (ATAR 95), WA Today reports.

No university has dropped their minimum ATAR entrance score below 70 for entry in 2018.

Students in the eastern states got their ATAR last week, coinciding with the news that the Government is planning on capping university places from next year.

Traditionally, W.A. leavers have to wait until late December for their scores. Now, they have the rest of the month to celebrate/commiserate.

Congrats and/or we’re so, so sorry.

Remember, your ATAR does not define you. Also, you should be satisfied that, in 2017, your WACE meme game was legendary.
