Uni of Sydney Introduces Fixed Minimum ATARs So You Can Finally Know the Minimum Mark Required

University of Sydney has joined the University of NSW in introducing minimum ATAR requirements, moving away from the current system of estimated ATAR cut-offs.

The estimated ATAR cut-off that is seen across most universities in Australia is based on the previous year's cut-off and works largely as a guide. It was revealed, however, that many course entrants received an ATAR considerably lower than the cut-off, leading some to question the system's transparency.

So, to tackle this issue, University of Sydney has decided to introduce a minimum ATAR requirement across the majority of courses, except those with strict intake restrictions like physiotherapy.

Professor Carlin told the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) that the fixed ATAR is based on an academic judgement, rather than the previous intakes marks.

"You set a level of academic preparedness that you'd expect a candidate to have [for each program]," Professor Carlin told SMH.

In 2014, the University of NSW also introduced a minimum ATAR requirement of 80 across most of its undergraduate degrees.

Remember, getting an ATAR isn't the only way to get into university. The University Admissions Centre has provided a brief lil' summary to put yourself at ease.
