Usain Bolt Makes History (Again) By Winning Gold In 100m And 200m Sprints

Usain Bolt has done the unthinkable – well, unthinkable for the rest of us mortals – and won a third straight Olympic sprint double.

As ABC News outlines, Bolt is the only athlete to have ever won the 100m and 200m sprint at the same Olympics twice. Thanks to his performance today at Rio, he is now the only athlete to have done it thrice.

He snagged the 100m gold earlier this week and dominated the 200m final today, with a time of 19.78. His closest competitor, Canada’s Andre De Grasse, managed 20.02 by comparison. Perhaps he was too distracted swooning at Bolt’s run again. Can you blame him?

Bolt now holds eight gold medals. He will get his ninth should Jamaica prove victorious in the coming 4x100m relay. It will also mean achieving the "triple triple" - winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m at three consecutive Olympic Games. You don't need to be told that no one else has ever achieved such a feat before.

After the race, Bolt told press he wants to be remembered alongside late boxer Muhammad Ali and Brazilian footballer Pele.

“I hope after these Games, I will be in that bracket,” he said.

Uhhh… already there, mate.

Last week, Bolt confirmed Rio would mark his final Olympics.

“I don’t need to prove anything else,” he said at the time.

“What else can I do to prove to the world I am the greatest?”
