USA Triumphs Over Japan At Women's World Cup Final

USA has triumphed at the Women's World Cup championship in Vancouver, capping off America's July 4 weekend in patriotic style.

The Americans crushed the Japanese team, who had previously knocked out Australia's own Matildas and later England to make the final.

Four years prior, Japan beat USA to take the Cup for themselves.

America's victory this time around, their third title overall, makes them the most successful team in Women's World Cup history.

Victory was all but locked up within the first 16 minutes, following four quick goals by USA, three of which were delivered by midfielder Carli Lloyd.

Lloyd's hat-trick is the first ever pulled off in a women's final. She also broke the men's record for fastest hat-trick in a final.

Japan managed to put two goals on the scoreboard, though one was an own-goal by America at the start of the second half.

A final decisive goal delivered by USA mere minutes later solidified their inevitable victory.

Lloyd was awarded the Golden Ball prize at the conclusion of the match, which recognises the best player in the tournament.

A day earlier, Lloyd posted the above selfie to Twitter, perhaps anticipating a resounding victory in the final.
