Two Aussies Tricked Their Way Into North Korea By Pretending To Be Golfers

Two mates from Brisbane successfully pranked North Korean officials into thinking they were legit golfers and got a pass into one of the world's most secretive states.
Morgan Ruig and Evan Shay were actually in China at the time for a polo trip when they decided to #yolo it up.
While the pair was in Beijing, they found out about the seventh annual North Korean Golf Championships, The Courier Mail reports. Cutting their plans short, they entered the competition as pretend members of the "Australian Golf" team.
They were actually accepted.
According to the Golf Digest, it was a two-day tournament taking place in Pyongyang at the country's only golf course. Around 85 participants from around the world gathered there to compete.
"Originally, we said we're a couple of Australian golfers, and they said, 'You're the Australian team?' and we sort of, didn't say no." Ruig told Nine News.
"So we thought, 'we better go along with this.'"
Sounds like a classic case of letting a joke (or a lie) go so far that you have no other choice than to commit yourself, fully and entirely, to it.
Apparently, the officials quickly realised the pair weren't actually profesh golfers after the first tee-off. "I hit 120 and my caddy told me I had brought great shame to my family," said Ruig.

"We were very nervous handing our passports over at the border. There are stories of people not coming home," said Ruig.
He called the experience "character building" and something he wouldn't recommend to a light-hearted traveller.
"It was pretty hard core but it was an amazing experience."
To be fair, they did get off with a slap on the wrist. I'm sure it wouldn't have been such an "amazing experience" if things unfolded any other way.
