Trump Cuts Phone Call With Turnbull Short, Says “This Was The Worst Call By Far”

The phone call on Sunday between Donald Trump and Malcolm Turnbull was meant to go for an hour, but ended abruptly after just 25 minutes.

The Washington Post reports U.S. President Donald Trump described his conversation with Australian leader Malcolm Turnbull as “the worst by far”.

Trump supposedly blasted Turnbull on the phone over his refugee resettlement bill—an agreement struck with former President Barack Obama—calling it “the worst deal ever”. He reportedly said “I don’t want these people” while discussing the deal.

It’s alleged, at one point in the conversation, Trump told Turnbull their chat was the worst he had all day. Earlier, he had also spoken on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. (Oh, zing!)

Turnbull (who's possibly suffering from a broken heart) has refused to comment.

“I’m not going to comment on these reports of a conversation,” said the PM. He described the call as “constructive” when addressing the media saying they both acknowledged a “strong and deep relationship between the United States and Australia”.

Trump’s temperament has been called into question, particularly since Australia and the U.S. are known to have a pretty tight bond. (I mean, we share intelligence, support each other diplomatically and have fought together in wars.)

U.S. officials believe Trump has behaved similarly in conversations with other country leaders, including Mexico. That call was—apparently—particularly hostile.

He reportedly told Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto: “You have a bunch of bad hombres down there. You aren’t doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn’t, so I might just send them down to take care of it.”
