Trinity Grammar Students are Protesting on the Oval, Following the Firing of their Deputy Principal

Students at Melbourne’s elite boys school Trinity Grammar have assembled on their oval to protest the firing of their deputy principal Rohan Brown.

According to 9news, Brown was fired from the private school when video emerged of him giving a student a haircut before school photos.

The school had said in a statement that Brown’s move was "inconsistent with community expectations".

But the students have rallied behind the deposed deputy, starting a change.org petition with the title "Get Mr Brown Back!!!" As of this writing, it has more than 5,500 signatures.

An Instagram account by the name bringbrownieback was also established, announcing school-wide protests during recess and lunch, beginning on Tuesday 13 March.

In a statement, the students said, "We are utterly hurt, angry and disappointed with the sacking of Mr Brown."

They planned on attending school with brown tape around their wrists.

The student who initially received the impromptu haircut has not returned to school since the incident, reportedly due to "intensive bullying".

During a community meeting on Friday, it was revealed that the student’s family had not wanted to see Brown fired either.

Over the weekend, Trinity Grammar ordered an independent review of Brown’s sacking.
