Viral Fridays: Topher, Long Dog and SZA’s Unreleased Song

Didn’t I do it for you, Kermie?
I don’t know about you, but I’m still reeling from the post-festive-season blues. The only saving grace has been the flurry of memes and media that I suspect have been concocted from the Christmas ham haze everyone’s still waking up from.

We’ve got a lot to unpack, and a lot we simply can’t explain. Here goes.
Trending on TikTok: Topher and Long Dog.
We’ve heard it’s weird and wacky out in the deep south of America, but nothing could have prepared us for the absolute jumpscare that is…Topher.
We thought we were all watching a wholesome family gathering TikTok, in which each member names who should be ‘warned about’.
Then we were assaulted by Topher’s ferocious southern brawl, and thus one of the first memes of 2023 spawned.
Meanwhile, FKA Twigs’ heartbreaking, soul-crushing ballad “Cellophane” has been brutalised into a rendition a la Miss Piggy serenading Kermie, placed over videos of Borzoi’s.
And no—that’s not TikTok slang for “bois”, even though it probably could be. Because these dogs are some long bois.
Trending in Music: SZA and a good ol’ dance track.
So SZA’s album recently dropped, but ironically, it’s the unreleased track she made for an SNL skit called “Big Boy” that’s got everyone straight vibin’.
The song isn’t even on streaming services, so you have to listen to it on this dodgy YouTube video. Petition for SZA to put on Spotify?
David Guetta’s remix of the Eiffel 65 classic “I’m Blue” is getting a lot of airtime on various TikTok trends. And we can’t deny, it’s a big of a banger.
Trending in Books: Hazza.
We wrote about it here, but pretty much, Prince Harry is saying weird things in his new book “Spare”.
It’s creating a lot of debate (especially from royalist boomers) but generally it’s been an entertaining scandal to spectate.

Trending in Food: Potato scallop? Potato cake? Potato fritter?
One of the biggest public discussions to occur in Australia for months has been going down the past couple days.
Is that battered, slightly soggy yet crispy slice of potato called a potato scallop, cake or fritter? And are the ones McDonald’s have released any good?
The Student Edge team tried and reviewed them for you.
That's a wrap for Viral Fridays. Keep on memeing on!
