Time Magazine Has Named Donald Trump ‘Person Of The Year’

US President-elect Donald Trump has been selected Person of the Year by Time magazine.

The announcement didn’t come as a huge surprise; most would agree Donald Trump—well and truly—had the world “shook” in 2016. Time has given him the title: “president of the divided states of America.”

“It’s hard to measure the scale of his disruption,” writes Time. “For those who believe this is all for the better, Trump’s victory represents a long-overdue rebuke to an entrenched and arrogant governing class.”

"To his detractors, he inspires fear both for what he may do and what may be done in his name.”

Time also revealed the shortlisted candidates for its ‘person of the year’ award, including Hillary Clinton and Beyoncé.

According to Reuters, Trump told Matt Lauer—a host of the Today program—that it’s an honour to be Times’ Person of the Year.

“When you say divided states of America, I didn’t divide them,” he followed up. “I mean there’s a lot of division, and we’re going to put it back together, and we’re going to have a country that’s very well healed.”

Within a few hours of the cover’s unveiling, it was subject to intense scrutiny and (over?) analysis. Some believe the graphic designers at Time deliberately positioned the M in their title above the president-elect’s head to create a set of devil-like horns.

Another speculation is the decision to photograph Trump seated in an angled armchair, in a very similar fashion to its April 1941 cover. Of Adolf Hitler.

Pure conspiracy, or deceptively clever design? Will leave that up to you to decide.
