Tim Tams Caught In Middle Of "Biscuit War"; In "Dangerously Low" Supply At Coles

Christmas is cancelled. There might be a Tim Tam shortage over the holiday season.

A new report from The Australian has exposed a price war between biscuit-makers Arnott’s and supermarket chain Coles, in which the loser is, without question, us.

According to the report, Arnott’s informed Coles earlier this year of its plan to increase prices (up to 10 per cent) across its range of biscuit lines (54 in total).

Coles didn’t exactly welcome the price hike with open arms, leading to a stand-off between the two companies.

In October, Arnott’s apparently stopped sending trucks to Coles, causing the chain to agree to raising prices for 44 of the 54 biscuit lines, including Scotch Fingers and Teddy Bears.

However, Arnott’s and Coles reportedly reached an impasse over Tim Tam multi-packs and Adriano Zumbo’s fancy-schmancy line of Tim Tams (Salted Caramels and Choc Raspberry included). As a result, Coles' supermarkets are running "dangerously low" in supply on Tim Tams.

A spokeswoman for Arnott’s said the company was not in any kind of biscuit war with Coles, but declined to comment on allegations of October's truck stoppages and Coles’ current decision not to stock those remaining Tim Tam lines.

Who will blink first? Will consumers side with the mighty supermarket chain, or simply seek Arnotty goodness elsewhere? Can't Cate Blanchett just ask that genie for more Tim Tams instead?

As this cold war simmers, think back to better times.
