The Weird Ways We All Use Our Phones

Don’t tell me I’m the only one still taking food photos?
This article is presented in partnership with Circles Life.
From sitting on the toilet to taking photos of our food - our phones are with us everywhere.
Circles Life asked what Aussies do with their phones, and some of the results are pretty shocking.

How much we love our phones.
Yeah, you’ve always got your phone on you, but how would you fare without it?
Almost half of Australians reckon it’d be very tough to go a day without their phones, and some were more willing to give up something else important.
Among the men surveyed in the study, 15 per cent would rather stop brushing their teeth for a week, and 12 per cent would give up showering for a week rather than give up their phone for a DAY.
C’mon guys.

“The mobile phone has become an extension of Australians' own self, so it was important for us to jump in and understand what is shaping phone usage and behaviour to help us design better mobile plans for our customers and Australians more broadly,” Circles Life Head of Marketing Genevieve Brock said.
“We found that almost nothing is off-limits regarding mobile phone usage for younger generations.”
The survey also found that Australians spend an average of 3.6 hours a day on our phones, with nearly a quarter going for more than five hours.

Bathroom scrolling.
True, our phones do come with us wherever we go – but there’s one place we’re using our phones we maybe don’t talk about all that much.
Circles Life revealed 61 per cent of those surveyed admitted to taking a call or selfie while – you guessed it – on the toilet.
Now I’m not saying I’ve never scrolled TikTok while on the ceramic throne – but please, just wash your hands if you do.

Food flexing.
The days of posting your meals to Instagram are well and truly gone, right?
Well maybe not, considering a massive 73 per cent of Aussies have had to wait to eat so they can snap a photo.
Plus, nearly half of those surveyed have asked someone not to eat before they can get the shot.

The cost impact.
A big part of the research from Circles Life also looked at how much we’re paying for our phone plans, and how we feel about it.
Paying an average of $63 a month, a third of Australians felt they pay too much for their mobile plan.

With cost-of-living pressures, 50 per cent of Aussies considered switching carriers to alleviate the pressure, and a massive 68 per cent said they were frustrated how phone plans went up every year.
