Pathways to careers

While study is a really important ingredient for a successful career, it doesn’t mean that a University degree is the only qualification that matters.

There are many ways of furthering your education so that you give yourself the best chance at a good career.

And most importantly, there is something for everyone. Don’t ever think that just because you’re not an academic star at school further education is not for you.

Here are some of the options available to you to gain a qualification that can lead to a good job and a long career:

  • Vocational Education Training (VET): A lot of people aren’t cut out for what used to be called “book learning” and if you are one of these people you might consider a VET course where you will be taught practical working skills.
  • Apprenticeships: A great way to earn money, learn a trade and get a qualification.
  • Certificates: Many colleges conduct courses that will result in graduates receiving certificate in a particular area that employers will be very pleased to see when you apply for a job with them.
  • Diplomas: Many learning institutions offer Diploma courses in various areas. A Diploma is a valued qualification and usually takes around 2 years to complete.
  • Degrees: All universities offer degree courses. The basic degree in any discipline talks three years to complete but there are many degrees which require four, five, six and even seven years of full-time study. Then of course, there are Masters Degrees and Doctorates which add further qualifications onto a degree.
  • Training Organisations: Australia’s Technical and Further Education system is the best in the world. Take advantage of it.
