Why The Student Edge Team Took The Bloody Oath (And Why You Should Too)

Take the pledge ✋ today.
This post is presented in partnership with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.
Did you know you can save up to three lives every time you give blood? Or that three blood donations are needed across Australia every minute?
Student Edge team member, Simmy, does and that’s why he’s taken the Bloody Oath to help those in need.
As part of the Bloody Oath campaign, Australians are being encouraged to become blood donors, even if they’re busy or a bit nervous.
In fact, quite a few of the Student Edge team recently rolled up their sleeves and took the Bloody Oath for a bunch of different reasons:
'Someone I loved needed blood transfusions so it’s meaningful to me.'
Kaylee first started giving blood at 16 to help her grandad, who was fighting a cancer battle at the time and often needed life-saving donations.
"Since he passed away three years ago, continuing to donate has helped me feel close to him," she says.
'It’s important to pay it forward.'
Simmy’s never given blood before, but is changing that with his commitment to the cause.
He says, despite his needle phobia, it's important to do what he can to give back.
“[I can’t] let excuses stop me from paying it forward and giving those in need a chance to live.”

'It makes me feel like I’m contributing something.'
Anica says it can be easy to feel helpless in the midst of a global pandemic, but donating blood is how she personally can make a difference.
“Lots of things in the world can feel out of our control. Doing this small act [of donating blood] can feel like it goes a long way,” she says.
'You get snacks.'
Henri's right – need we say more?
After donating, you'll be treated to complimentary snacks and, depending on the donation centre, you could get anything from party pies to fruit, even cookies! We love free food, especially when we've earned it!

Why you should take the Bloody Oath.
In case you need a few more reasons, here are another six.
Take the Bloody Oath and become a blood donor. Head to the Lifeblood website to learn more about the difference you can make.
