Student Edge Launches Cyber Safety Program to Australian Schools

Student Edge (SE) has launched a new online learning platform, Student Edge Learning, to schools around Australia.
The platform will allow students to complete vital courses online that wouldn’t usually be found in the school curriculum. The first of these is the Cyber Safety program.
This program educates young people on the pitfalls of social media and provides guidance on how to navigate the internet safely. Student Edge is an accredited provider of online safety programs, per the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner (Australian Government).
SE’s General Manager of Members and Marketing, Choon Tan, explained that the program bridges the gap between school and the outside world.
“The internet is also constantly evolving, with new websites and apps being created or updated daily,” Tan said.
"Students can arm themselves with the knowledge around how to spot scams, and develop strategies to avoid falling prey to viruses, fraudsters, bullies or other sinister elements."
The program allows teachers the flexibility to assign these programs in the classroom or as a home activity, with it being fully compatible with desktop and mobile devices.
"This allows the learning to take place outside the already busy school schedule, and saves the teacher from having to organise all students to engage in the program in a classroom setting," Tan explained.
Teachers can monitor and measure their students' progress by logging in and then following up with any students who are trailing behind.
Once a student has completed the course, they will automatically receive a certificate of completion.
Student Edge Learning works on a simple system where schools pay for the students' tokens, which can be redeemed on the provided programs.
Tan is convinced Student Edge Learning will help to fill a gap in cyber safety awareness, especially for schools in regional and remote areas.
"We believe we are helping to fill a need and are optimistic that schools and students will embrace Student Edge Learning," Tan said.
