The Stolen Pygmy Saga: Two Of The Teensy Monkeys Have Been Found, One More Is Still Missing

A trio of ultra-rare pygmy marmosets were stolen from a wildlife park south of Sydney; two have since been found but one is still missing.

The pygmies were forcibly taken from their Symbio Wildlife Park enclosure in Helensburgh on Saturday morning, as reported by the ABC.

The park urged anyone with information to come forward, as they searched for Gomez, Sophia and a four-week-old pygmy that had yet to be named.

Crime stoppers received a call which led them to a vehicle in Appin, about 30 kilometres away from Helensburgh. Inside, police found a baby monkey alive, and arrested two men.

The men were taken to Campbelltown Police Station where they were charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Luckily, a second marmoset was also found alive and well in the Campbelltown district.

On Sunday, Symbio Wildlife Park posted another urgent bid for information on Facebook. Earlier, they said the newborn was “of most concern and needs to be reunited with its mother as it’s still reliant on its mum’s milk”.

The thought of a tiny monkey lost out there somewhere in the big, concrete jungle is enough to make anyone – at least a little – upset.

We will update you on the pygmy saga as more details come.

Update: The third pygmy marmoset monkey has been found alive and well, New South Wales Police confirm. Hooray!
