Stanford Rapist Brock Turner Wants To Go On A College Lecture Tour

Trigger warning: This article discusses rape and sexual assault.

Today in ‘get in the sea’…

Stanford rapist Brock Turner, just released from jail, is reportedly eager to tour American college campuses and deliver lectures to students.

According to the Huffington Post, Turner plans to speak on “drinking and promiscuity” in an effort to redeem his image.

You’ll recall that Turner submitted a letter to Judge Aaron Persky - prior to his six-month sentence for raping a young woman behind a dumpster - in which he blamed his actions on “party culture”.

In the letter, he suggested there was implied consent in his interaction with his victim, who was found unconscious at the time of the assault.

“I want to demolish the assumption that drinking and partying are what make up a college lifestyle,” he wrote.

“I made a mistake, I drank too much, and my decisions hurt someone.”

The victim penned a letter of her own, which she read in court (and later had published on BuzzFeed).

“Alcohol is not an excuse,” she said.

“Having too much to drink was an amateur mistake that I admit to, but it is not criminal.

“Regretting drinking is not the same as regretting sexual assault. We were both drunk; the difference is I did not take off your pants and underwear, touch you inappropriately and run away.”

Turner was ultimately sentenced to six months in county jail. He was released last week, having served just three months.

Judge Persky is facing a recall campaign over his lenient sentencing, with 1.2 million digital signatures on a petition demanding he stand down. Persky has already removed himself from all criminal cases going forward.
