Spelling No Longer Deemed Fun After Taylor Swift Deletes "ME!" Lyric from "Lover"

Hey kids, [redacted]!

Taylor Swift’s latest album Lover has arrived to rapturous reviews (well, at least compared with the reviews that met her 2017 heel turn Reputation).

On it, she demonstrates the songwriting skill that made her a superstar to begin with, along with a maturity and growth that naturally comes when one nears their thirties.

She’s even apparently grown and matured since April, when she dropped her cloying comeback single "ME!", which seems more and more like an intentional expectation-dropper, designed to make you hate the very concept of music until the exact moment you played Lover and heard Swift’s "Cruel Summer".

Anyway, reports emerged last week that Swift had edited the single version of "ME!" on Apple Music by deleting the spoken word line, "Hey kids, spelling is fun!" at 1:54.

It now appears that Swift regrets ever calling spelling fun, because the line has been deleted from the album version (buried at track 16) on both Spotify and Apple Music as well. The lyric has been replaced with… nothing, which is absolutely an improvement.

If you can’t bear to live without it, you can still hear the line on the single version on Spotify, and in the music video (at 2:40).

While not as outrageously meme-worthy as "Old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now", the "spelling is fun" line managed to be an eyebrow-raising moment in a bizarre song that already had eyebrows positioned to eject off one’s head.

Swift initially said that the line was included as a "tone decision", to let everyone know, "this song is not really serious".

Now, if only she can continue to delete the song line-by-line, and expand the Idris Elba intro on "London Boy", we’ll be cooking.
