Should Australia Change The Flag?

Australia: known for its Vegemite, kangaroos, a meat pie with sauce on Australia Day and its iconic flag.

Changing the Australian flag could be a major mistake in Australia's history.

Men and women have fought and died under the Australian flag. Changing the flag could possibly disrespect those men and women who have fought for their country.

The flag is a reminder of where we all came from. It was chosen by a government long ago and has remained the same since then. So why change it now?

Changing the flag could possibly confuse tourists and people overseas. Maybe even people in our own country. Everybody knows the Australian flag because, well, it’s so well known. Changing it could ruin the reputation of our nation. Having a completely different flag to represent us could be to our own detriment.

We don't want to be one of those countries who change their flag several times and can never agree on a design. How could we all agree on a design that suits everybody, anyway? That would take so much time and effort.

The process of designing a flag, voting on many of them and then having the money to change every flag worldwide for one particular country is ridiculous. Our country doesn’t need all that stress.

Right at this present time, Australia's government has bigger issues to worry about such as marriage equality, refugee issues, domestic violence against women, men and children, education in our schools and the recent spill. Changing our flag would just be seen as a distraction to cover up what is really happening in our country.

Australia's flag should remain the same. We should continue to celebrate Australia Day with the same flag and be proud of the same flag that we have had for many generations.
