Selena Gomez Reveals She Underwent Chemo Treatment In 2013

Remember when Selena Gomez cancelled her Australian tour in 2013 and everyone thought she had checked into rehab?

Well, turns out that’s not exactly what happened.

The “Good For You” singer has told Billboard she was actually diagnosed with lupus in 2013 and undertook chemotherapy treatment to battle the autoimmune disease.

“That's what my break was really about,” she said.

Not totally sure what lupus is? Basically, it's when the body's immune system turns on itself. The disease usually affects the skin and joints, but can certainly also attack one's kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. More than 17,000 Australians are diagnosed with lupus.

“I could've had a stroke," Gomez continued.

For those who gossiped about her disappearance from the limelight back in '13, Gomez has some words.

"I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're a**holes.'"

That wasn’t the only bit of realness dropped by Gomez in her Billboard profile.

"I'm so f****** nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me," she added.

"I've been working since I was 7. I've been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story."

Gomez also commented on the career revival of her old flame Justin Bieber. When asked if he was an inspiration: "No. This is my time. I’ve deserved this. I earned it. This is all me."

So, her upcoming album Revival suddenly seems like it will be a pretty interesting listen.
