Security Warning Issued To UNSW Students And Staff Following Anonymous Threat

The University of New South Wales has issued a general security warning in response to an anonymous threat posted on 4chan.

On UNSW’s Facebook page, the University confirmed that the Kensington campus has not been evacuated and classes are continuing as normal. However, the threat is being taken seriously and the uni has been liaising with the New South Wales police - through their anti-terrorism department - as well the security group and Local Area Command on the matter.

Those who feel uncomfortable on campus and would like to leave have been informed they may do so without fear of being penalised.

The anonymous post in question was published Sunday evening.

According to ABC News, the threat is considered to be general, and not targeting a specific group.

The heightened tensions in Sydney come in the wake of the recent Parramatta shooting at NSW Police HQ, conducted by a 15-year-old student.

Update: UNSW has reached out to staff and students and let them know the campus will remain open and classes will continue as scheduled on Tuesday, October 13. The decision was based on advice from NSW Police. A further update will be emailed on Tuesday morning.
