Robert Pattinson Agrees He Was “Too Miserable” In “Twilight”

Robert Pattinson has revealed he was almost fired from the Twilight saga for not smiling enough.

These days, Pattinson is a mostly-respectable actor who appears in challenging arthouse movies and ambitious indie flicks.

But most of us will always think of him as the sparkly-sad Edward Cullen from Twilight. (Harry Potter stans, do not @ us.)

However, there was a chance R-Pattz might have been replaced during shooting of the first Twilight.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Pattinson said his agents flew to the set to pass along the warning from the film’s producers: “You have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today.”

The producers believed he was too brooding. Pattinson argued that, as a centuries-old vampire who “can barely touch” his teenage girlfriend, there wasn’t much to smile about.

“It’s incredibly serious all the time… that’s what teenage relationships are,” he added.

The producers instead apparently wanted him to be “happy and having fun”. I’m no fan of the Twilight movies, but even this sounds like a miscalculation.

Anyway, Pattinson held out and the producers eventually let him carry on. But even now, he agrees he was probably too sullen a Cullen.

Fittingly, his next movie is titled Good Time.
