Here’s What to Do in the Summer Holidays Before Uni Starts

Kick back and relax (amongst other things).
This article is presented in partnership with RMIT.
Exams? Done. School? Finished. Summer? It’s finally here.

You’ve just spent the last 13 years of your life at school, and it’s paid off – uni’s coming in a few months and it’s time to get ready.
In the meantime, you’ve got nearly three whole months to get planned and ready for the next chapter of your life.
We’re sure you’ve got big plans – but there’s a few important things you’ve gotta get done before O-week rolls around.
1. Start looking forward to uni.
So, you’ve been accepted to uni – congrats! Your first job is getting pumped.

University is a completely different experience to school life, with more freedom than you’ve ever had before.
Let’s say you’ve been accepted to RMIT. You can head to their website and check out the massive list of clubs and societies to see which ones take your fancy.
RMIT's roster of clubs includes such highlights as the Electric Racing Club, the Games, Manga and Anime Society, the Science Fiction and Gaming Club, plus course-specific societies, political groups and much more.

Be sure to also check out the huge roster of events and activities on offer, as well as student amenities like fitness centres, libraries, cafes, restaurants and much much more.
That’s really just the tip of the iceberg of what’s on offer so check out their site today!
2. Check out what your classes will look like.
Never before have you had this much choice in what to study – if you’ve accepted your place in a degree, you can then access your uni’s website to marvel at all the possibilities.
There’s a lot on offer for every single student at RMIT, and it can take a while to put it all together.
For every degree, there’ll be some mandatory courses, as well as the opportunity to select a minor specialisation to complement your degree, as well as a wide variety of elective units.

So get started with RMIT’s course guide, explore your opportunities and chart your course.
3. Get everything you need to start uni.
There’s a lot of items to tick off on your pre-uni checklist – that includes things like:
- Ordering your student card.
- Setting up your account and password.
- Setting up your new email.
- Organising your schedule.
This might sound like a lot already – we know. But thankfully, your uni is here to help.
With RMIT you can access a comprehensive pre-semester checklist to go through every individual item you need to get done before uni starts.

If you get ahead of this, you can lessen the stress of your first semester and really launch into uni.
You’ll also have to think about all the other things you need for uni, like transport, accommodation and work.
Here’s where RMIT comes in clutch again – they can help with a range of pre-uni concerns like finding a place to live, finding work, and organising student public transport concessions, as well as general student support.
4. Relax!
Last, but absolutely not least – relax! You’ve just graduated high school and you absolutely deserve it.
This summer is meant to be a fun one, so hit the beach, hang out with mates, go on holidays and think about the huge (but awesome) journey you’re about to undertake.
