Well, the correct term for pairing two characters from different franchises is called a “crackship.”

Despite the recent popularity on TikTok, the term actually originated on Tumblr in the early 2010s.

 Crackships are ‘humorous or strange romantic pairing between characters, specifically those from totally different franchises.’ Think Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony and Mordecai from The Regular Show.

Crackships are made for comedy and to explore wildly improbable scenarios, as well as make for some quality fanfic material.

While they originated on Tumblr, there’s no denying the traction this ship has gotten over the past month on TikTok and Instagram.

It all began with fanart by artist @monia_lynn, captioned “I MIGHT be a genius.”

The drawing, posted on Instagram and TikTok, became a full-on craze that could rival one of the greatest crackship from the 2010s - Jack Frost and Elsa (IYKYK).

Fans quickly began making their own fan art, crafting edits and writing Fanfiction imagining different scenarios for the OG queen bee and loveable grunge drummer of Löded Diper.
