Rapper 21 Savage Detained by US Immigration on Suspicion of Actually Being British

The "Rockstar" rapper has fiercely repped Atlanta as his hometown for his entire career.

21 Savage has been arrested and detained by immigration officials on suspicion of being a UK national who overstayed his visa more than a decade ago.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released a statement about the arrest of 21 Savage, AKA Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, whom they allege entered the US in July 2005 and remained illegally after his visa had expired a year later in July 2006.

"Mr. Abraham-Joseph is presently in ICE custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts," the statement reads.

"ICE will now await the outcome of his case before a federal immigration judge to determine future actions."

Perhaps best known for his chart-topping feature on Post Malone's "Rockstar" alongside features with Cardi B, Offset and Drake, the rapper has long repped Atlanta, in the United States' south, as his hometown.

If the allegations turn out to be true, he might just be the world's best imitator because no one has ever suspected otherwise.

As some on the internet are alleging, 21 Savage might've immigrated from Dominica in his early teens, a Caribbean island once under British rule; an origin story that sounds a lot less outlandish than him being from downtown London, moving to Atlanta and immediately adopting a southern accent.

His attorney, Dina LaPolt, told TMZ that they are "working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding."

"[21 Savage] is a role model to the young people in the country... and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy."
