Raging Against The 'Slow-Food' Revolution

We asked members for their thoughts on 'slow-cooked' food. One wasn't a fan.
The first thing I think of when I hear the term ‘slow-cooked’ is a turtle in an apron wearing a chef hat preparing my food. It’s a cute and quirky thought, but upon realising how long it would take for my food to get ready, the smile on my face quickly begins to fade. It’s not that I don’t like the thought of turtles preparing my food. However, the fact that I have to wait so long for it, and may even be famished before the food is ready, means I cannot see the benefit of slow cookers (or understand the new ‘slow-cooked’ craze). I am convinced that slow cooking serves us little to no purpose, except for those who just don’t know how to use a stove or is afraid of burning the house down (in that case, yes, slow cooking may just be for you). Leaving your meal to the slow-cooker is like saying to that turtle, “Have this meal ready in 12 hours and do not make it any faster. Heck, you can even have it ready by tomorrow, or the day after. The slower the better.” Now that is something I definitely know I will never say. Who wants food that has been simmering in a pot for half the day? It’s such a waste of electricity, and I have a feeling that my food would probably turn into mush if it has been cooking for such a period of time. I’m dubious of the health benefits and doubt the flavours will be any more enhanced. I’ve never seen anyone on MasterChef use a slow cooker, and I doubt that anyone would be able to make it to the next round if they did use one. So, is ‘slow-cooked’ food good for the soul? I’d say yes, if you have an extremely patient soul. However, for a soul like mine who appreciates and values one’s time and life, I definitely do not have the patience for slow cookers and would prefer to spend my time and money on something a bit more useful.
