Alright, Here’s All the Prince Harry Drama in a Nutshell

Lots of yikes moments.

Unless you haven’t been online in a hot minute, you’ve probably been seeing lots of “explosive bombshells” and “shocking reveals” coming out about the Royal family.

For some people—UK citizens in particular—the British Royal family are an establishment almost as iconic as the Spud King Tony Galati’s empire here in Australia (but not quite).

For others (and it turns out, a lot of our Student Edge members), they’re sort of irrelevant. We asked y’all if you even cared, and let’s just say the Royals aren’t admired too much among Aussie Gen Z’s.

Prince Harry’s novel Spare is set to be released worldwide on 10 January, and after some sneaky leaks, we are getting a whole lot of tea.

So, if you do want to catch yourself up, we’ve broken everything down into more palatable portions of drama. And a head’s up—it’s a wild ride.

First up—the novel has been ghost-written.

Just in case you were under the impression Prince Harry himself had sat down in his (ex)-royal abode and written his manuscript out by candlelight, we’re gonna go ahead and clear that up for you.

Spare is technically written by novelist J.R. Moehringer, who is an acclaimed American novelist and journalist. So, you can expect all the saucy insights to be relayed with a novelist’s touch.

Prince Harry reckons he was always the “second option”.

When Charles and Diana gave birth to Prince William, his entire future was immediately set in stone. He was the first-born and would be the future heir to the royal throne.

Now imagine being born to an older sibling who everyone respects more and being called a “spare” yourself. Probably not very nice.

It’s allegedly what Prince Harry has gone through all his life. Leaked quotes reveal he recounts hearing, aged 20, that his father said to Diana on the day of his birth: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare—my work is done.”

Yikes.

Harry and Will weren’t big fans of Camilla.

If you’ve watched The Crown, you’d know all about Charles, Diana and Camilla.

As Diana said herself—“there were three people in that marriage”. And it turns out Harry and William weren’t too chuffed about that, either.

Harry shares in Spare that when he first met Camilla, she seemed “bored” during their meeting, and he goes on to say it was likely because of his status as the ‘spare’.

Brotherly rivalry escalated.

Apparently, there was a bit of a scuffle in 2019, when William (allegedly) physically attacked Harry at his Nottingham Cottage home in Kensington Palace. And it was about Meghan.

Willy allegedly called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, then grabbed Harry by the collar and knocked him to the kitchen floor. He attests he even sustained some injuries to his back.

Sounds like me and my siblings on a normal day.

Harry saw a psychic or medium to get in contact with his mum, Diana.

It’s apparently clear in Spare that Diana’s death was deeply traumatising for Harry.

According to the leaks, Harry went to see “a woman” who “claimed to have powers” many years after Diana’s death, who told him she was able to relay a message from Diana. She told Harry: “You’re living the life she couldn’t. You’re living the life she wanted for you.”

Haz and Will are still a bit suss about their mum’s death.

In 1997, Princess Diana’s cause of death was concluded to be the result of a drunk chauffeur.

Harry says “it was simplistic and absurd” after driving through the tunnel of the crash himself many years later. He writes, “he wouldn’t have had any problem driving through such a short tunnel unless paparazzi were following him and dazzled him.”

Harry and William wanted to issue a joint statement asking for the investigation to be reopened, but they were persuaded otherwise.

Look, we could keep going. There’s Harry’s time in the army, the “greatest mistake of his life” (dressing up as a Nazi), and his wild teenage youth.

Spare comes out tomorrow on 10 January, so you can get all the goss very soon.
