Nintendo's New Blue Switch Lite Is All Kinds of Cool and We Want It

Landing in stores 21 May.

If you haven’t made the switch (sorry) to a Nintendo Switch yet, then Nintendo might have just made the move way easier by announcing a new blue colour variant is coming for the Nintendo Switch Lite.

Launching across Australia and New Zealand on 21 May this year, Nintendo confirmed in a press release that the new blue joins an already colourful lineup of coral, yellow, grey and turquoise consoles. 

The new blue variant is a nice throwback to the indigo colour on the Gameboy Advance and the Nintendo GameCube that the Japanese company ran with in the early 2000s. A nice touch from Mr. Nintendo.

The suggested retail price currently from Nintendo is $329.95 so if you’re paying more, you’re probably getting ripped.

What’s the difference between a Switch and a Switch Lite?

All Nintendo Switch Lite models are specifically designed to play on the move.

The Lite is smaller and lighter than its big bro Nintendo Switch, but can still play all the games in the Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode.

Unlike the regular Nintendo Switch, the Switch Lite is not a hybrid console that can be docked and paired with your TV. The Switch Lite is purely a handheld gaming console.

What else did Nintendo’s press release say?

Lumped in with the new colour for the Nintendo Switch Lite is the new Miitopia game that is launching on the same day as the blue variant.

In Miitopia, players will star in a hilarious adventure alongside their own friends and family by creating and customising your own Mii characters and attempting to take down the face-stealing Dark Lord.

It’s a turn-based combat game that will team up your best mate and your crazy uncle to fight off bad guys like the, uh, gyrating Twerkey.

We’re pretty excited for Miitopia as this could be a launching pad to get a Wii Sports remake. Legit, have you ever played Wii golf? That game is dope.

Miitopia and the blue colour variant Nintendo Switch Lite will be available in Australia and New Zealand from 21 May 2021.
