Nintendo Fans Rejoice ‘Cos “Among Us” Launches on Switch Today

The new Nintendo Switch version will support crossplay.

If you were looking for another excuse to finally buy that Nintendo Switch you’ve been eyeing off, here’s a really good one.

At Nintendo’s Indie World presentation, the video game company announced that one of the biggest games from 2020, Among Us, is finally coming to the Switch today!

Aside from the fact that this game is a banger, the great news is that the Switch version will support crossplay. Crossplay refers to the gaming functionality in which players can play the same game together online using different video game hardware.

So, in this case, me on a Nintendo Switch and you on a PC for example.

While this function is great news, you will, unfortunately, have to subscribe to a Nintendo account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play with others on the web.

If you haven’t heard of Among Us before, you’re going to want to. The game is essentially an online social deduction match.

Players have to work together to complete tasks around a ship while they figure out who the secret mole is, known as the 'imposter'.

During the match, the imposter's aim is to quietly kill as many of the other regular players as they can, without getting caught, so it’s sneaky as.

While the game technically launched in 2018, it shot to popularity this year thanks to a boost on Twitch. Among Us now boasts hundreds of thousands of players across mobile and PC (and soon more on Switch).

In fact, the game became so popular that the developers Innersloth have decided to cancel the sequel and instead plan to focus on just improving the original.

The game has made its mark for sure. Earlier in the month it also picked up The Game Awards prize for Best Multiplayer Game.

You can get your hands on Among Us now on the Nintendo store for just $6.45.
