You'll Be Able to Make Your Insta Feed Chronological Again Next Year

New year, new feed.

Instagram has announced they’re bringing back the chronological feed in a bid to smash algorithm-fueled harm for young people on the app.

Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced the optional setting will roll out in the new year.

Another optional "favorites" feed has also been proposed, which will put posts from selected pals higher in your feed.

The Insta feed hasn’t been in time order since 2016 when they made the switch to a ranked-algorithm order based on your preferences.

Whistleblowers and lawmakers have been calling the platform toxic for younger users for ages, prompting a government subcommittee hearing on child safety this week.

That’s where Mr Mosseri made the announcement and was grilled on the impact of the app on youth mental health.

He clapped back with more details on plans for an industry body and more parental controls.

CNN reports he also said Instagram will take a "stricter approach" to what it recommends to teenagers and nudge them toward different topics like architecture and travel if they've been dwelling on any type of content for too long.

Ahead of the hearing, Insta also rolled out the “Take a Break” feature this week, which encourages users to pause using the app after they’ve been using it for a certain time period.

Senators are still pretty skeptical, though, with one calling the updates underwhelming.

Personally, I’m keen on the new feed option for my weird tendencies for order and intense FOMO to be satisfied. Whether it’ll make Instagram any less toxic for me, though? We shall see…
