Netflix Could Be Reviving “Mindhunter” Season 3 and We're So Ready

It's about time!

In what might be one of the greatest comeback stories since my boy Steven Bradbury, Netflix have been chatting with Mindhunter showrunner David Fincher about filming a Season 3.

If you haven’t watched the psychological crime thriller then stop whatever you’re doing and binge it.

The series follows FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathon Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in the early '80s as they interview serial killers with the hope of using what they learn to solve ongoing cases.

Unfortunately, in January 2020 Netflix didn't renew the contracts of show leads Groff, McCallany and Anna Torv, effectively putting the series on hold indefinitely.

Tragic considering Mindhunter remains one of Netflix’s highest rated original shows.

There were a couple of factors that led to Mindhunter going on hiatus. Fincher was burned out after doing the lion’s share of the work in Season 2 and needed a break.

“It’s a 90-hour workweek. It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted and I said, ‘I don’t know if I have it in me right now to break season three,” Fincher said during an interview with Vulture.

Combining that with the fact that viewership didn’t reflect the money Netflix sunk into the series, it makes a little more sense to put the show on hold, despite the great reviews.

Netflix are now ready to revisit making a Season 3 it seems after Smallscreen reported that a conversation between Fincher and the streaming company was happening.

“They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season” an anonymous source told them.

“It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.”

At the moment, Fincher has an exclusivity deal with Netflix that will see any work he makes in the next four year be released through them, so it kinda makes sense Mindhunter would get brought up in discussions about what he wants to do next after finishing Mank.

Here’s hoping that Mindhunter Season 3 will be one of his next projects.
