More Australians Are Getting Second and Third Jobs Than Ever

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released a new report called Labour Account, which has analysed the job trends for Australians from census data.
It's looking pretty dim, as it shows Australians are taking on second and third jobs to cover their growing expenses.
The Census results show that nearly 800,000 Australians are holding a second job, up 3.7 per cent from the previous six years.

Chief Economist at the ABS, Bruce Hockman, said in an ABS media release that the new report gives a better overview of Australia's job market and can look at the number of hours worked and their multiple incomes.
"These new experimental estimates show that, through the year to June 2016, filled jobs grew by 2.7 per cent, from 12.9 million to 13.2 million," Hockman said in the release.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) predicts that the trend toward part-time work is here to stay. The share of part-time work in the job market is up to a third, from 10 per cent in the 1970s.
"As a result, the distinction between full-time and part-time work has become less important in assessing labour market conditions," the RBA's board minutes read.
I guess, for many, buying a house will remain just a dream for some time to come.
