Meet The New Triple J Breakfast Hosts For 2017: Ben And Liam

Replacing the dynamic duo of Matt and Alex on Triple J’s breakfast show will be two fresh faces (or should we say, voices) from Adelaide named Ben and Liam.

Triple J has been busy releasing deets of their new 2017 line up. One of the biggest announcements was that Matt Okine and Alex Dyson, hosts of the coveted breakfast spot, would be moving on from their roles.

Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton will be taking over the breakfast spot, and the duo had their first studio-to-studio meeting with the current hosts this morning.

The two freshers were given a chance to introduce themselves and to chat, generally, about their lives.

Give it a listen below:

Triple J’s Content Director Ollie Wards assured listeners that Ben and Liam are hilarious: “They’re 23 and 20 but come to the radio with thousands of hours on air together and crazy amounts of fun ideas."

"They’ll be a part of a broad new team, including an expanded News role with Brooke Boney, our voice of youth current affairs in the mornings,” he announced.

That team will also include Australian Paralympian of the Year Dylan Alcott and comedian Gen Fricker.

Ben’s super excited to get started, considering just two years ago he was listening to Triple J from a tractor on a dairy farm. “I’m super stoked to have the opportunity to host Triple J Breakfast with my mate Liam,” he said.

“Even if he does wear the skinniest drain pipe jeans I’ve ever seen.” (Ha!)

Liam’s equally as stoked to join the team, recounting memories of being in Year Two when he was cast as a rock in the Easter play. Much to his surprise, he “didn’t expect to be doing a national breakfast show at twenty.”

With good news, there’s inevitably more bad news.

The bad news? Lewi McKirdy, Sarah Howells and Kyran Wheatley are joining Matt and Alex on the farewell bandwagon; they will be moving on in 2017 too.

It’s just one bombshell after the other, thanks Triple J.
