Stepping into a new country and choosing a new home and a new uni can feel overwhelming for any international student. Yet for Prajakta, her journey at Monash Business School has been warm and welcoming.
From supportive tutors and classmates to the fun campus events and diverse community, she’s found so many reasons to love studying at Monash.
Born in India and growing up in Dubai, she chose Monash as her uni of choice for the course offered in business. Now with a degree under her belt, she tells us what she loved about studying at Monash from the classes to the best hang-out spots on campus.
“Monash looked interesting to me because of the course outline for their business degree but also all of the practical units looked both interesting and useful.”
What was student life like at Monash?

While making the big move to a new country can be daunting, Prajakta says she found friends really easily living on campus and met a lot of other international students.
“My dorms had a lot of events throughout the week.
“We also had a lot of orientation events so I found making friends pretty easy, honestly”
Not to mention, there’s heaps of programs for students to sign up to so they can build connections and add to their portfolio.
“I also signed up for a lot of programmes like the business ambassador programme, the global ambassador programme, peer mentoring programme in which I met a lot of people from different walks of life.”
“Just interacting with people from different socioeconomic backgrounds really helped me make friends.”
Prajakta loved a good hangout sesh after class and says her favourite spot on campus was at the library or on the outside deck on the Caulfield campus green.

What was your course like at Monash?

Prajakta studied a business degree, specialising in marketing with a minor in management and statistics. She told us about how much she enjoyed Monash’s wide range of practical learning units.
“I did a unit which was on retail management in which I had to design the shelf of a supermarket aisle.
“We were given about 150 cereal options, and we had to design the shelf in a way that optimised not only visibility but also profits.
“That was one of the favourite units that I've done so far … because it was something that you could see visually, and it also included a platform in which we literally could drag and drop every option that we had," she said.
Prajakta has also completed units that incorporate AI integration to design a quiz chat bot through harnessing Notebook LM and Gemini to design the software and interface.
“We had to make the quiz appealing to look at.
“That's where the AI integration came through because we use AI to sort of bring that to life.”
Inside her internship journey - from search to success.

Prajakta says there were heaps of opportunities for interning while studying her degree. She landed a gig at 9x5 Consulting in which she was paired with through her Industry Experience unit at Monash.
“9x5 Consulting makes IT solutions for schools and it was so great for what I was studying.
“I was given the opportunity to go into the office for 20 days during the summer and I got to learn a lot more hands-on stuff.
“A lot of the platforms that these marketing companies use I was sort of introduced to and I found that to be really helpful.”

Any advice for international students looking to study at Monash?

In terms of advice for international students looking to study at Monash, Prajakta said that while she knows it’s tough meeting new people as an international student, it’s important to put yourself out there.
“Just putting yourself out there and saying yes to more things would be my advice.”
“Once you put yourself in that spot I feel like you don't have a lot to lose.
“Even if you don’t end up liking it, you at least know what you're not interested in and what you're not looking for.”
