"Dangerous" Matildas Beat Brazil In Women's World Cup; Now Headed For Quarter Finals

Australia’s pride, the Matildas, could be on track for the Women’s World Cup final after defeating Brazil 1-0 this morning.

The Aussie soccer team triumphed over the Brazilians, ranked seventh in the world, when substitute Kyah Simon scored at the 80-minute mark of a hotly-contested clash.

Their victory in Canada now sees them bound for the quarter finals, where they'll go up against the victor of tomorrow’s game between Japan and the Netherlands.

This marks the third consecutive time the Matildas, ranked 10th in the world, have qualified for the Cup quarter finals.

However, since this Women’s World Cup includes 24 teams, as opposed to 16 in previous years, this is the first ever knockout victory by the Matildas in a sudden death round.

Coach Alen Stajcic posed this warning to their next opponents: “We’re a dangerous team, one of the most dangerous teams at the World Cup, if not the most dangerous team in going forward.”
