Yes, Margot Robbie Found That Vanity Fair Profile "Odd", Thanks For Asking

On the promotional trail, no one can hear you scream.
Margot Robbie is on the road spruiking her upcoming DC team-up flick Suicide Squad (not that she needs to; her character Harley Quinn is already so beloved, she’s probably gonna get her own solo feature).
That means she’s finally fronting questions about that…. questionable Vanity Fair profile in which she was described as being “sexy and composed even while naked but only in character” (huh?) by author Rich Cohen.
(This is the same piece in which Australia was described as “America 50 years ago”. Again, we say: huh?)
The internet had a field day with Cohen’s baffling choice of words and general sexist language (“she is 26 and beautiful, not in that otherworldly, catwalk way but in a minor knock-around key, a blue mood, a slow dance”). And yet, Robbie stayed silent.
That is, until she sat down with The Project’s Carrie Bickmore, who finally raised the subject on Monday evening.
“I remember doing the interview and being like, 'That was an odd one… a really odd interview, I don’t know how that’s going to come out,'” she said, diplomatically.
“Then I read it and I was like, 'Yeah, the tone of this is really weird, I don’t really know what he’s trying to get at or play at'. But I didn’t expect it’d be, like, an uproar about it, at all.
“I’ve read far more offensive, far more sexist, insulting, derogatory, disgusting things on a daily basis. I don’t know. Maybe I’m like, desensitised to it now.”
This is far too reasonable a response for the internet’s appetite.
Robbie did seem to indicate, however, that she was quite pleased with how Aussies took umbrage with the piece, even as she stayed silent.
“I had this bit of Aussie pride,” she said.
“I thought 'don’t mess with the Aussies, don’t you mess with the Aussies, look what happens when you mess with Australia.'”
We got you, Margot.
