Mara Wilson Tweets Support To LGBTQI Community In Wake Of Orlando; Embraces “Bi/Queer” Label

Matilda star Mara Wilson has revealed on Twitter that she’s “embraced the Bi/Queer label lately”, in a message of support to the LGBTQI community following the Orlando shooting at Pulse nightclub.

Her Tweets came as 49 were confirmed dead at the hands of Omar Meteen at the popular Florida spot. (A further 53 were injured in what has since been classified as America’s deadliest ever mass shooting.)

Wilson, now 28, began with a snap of herself, aged 18, at a gay club.

"[T]he LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself," she added.

When pressed for details, Wilson said she was a “2” on the Kinsey scale, which is classified as "predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual".

"I *used* to identify as mostly straight," she clarified. "I've embraced the Bi/Queer label lately."

Wilson is not the only person to share their sexual orientation with the world following Orlando’s tragedy, with many using the #GaysBreakTheInternet to come out publicly.

Collectively, it’s a massive, generous gesture. Consider one of the Orlando survivors who lost his boyfriend of three years in the shooting; his parents in Mexico do not even know he is gay.

"It’s a double catastrophe," he told the New York Times. "You face such horrible loss and then can’t share it."
