Should 16-Year-Olds Be Allowed To Vote?

We chat to the co-founder of the campaign attempting to make the change.

With a bill before the parliament to lower the voting age to 16, young political voices are at the forefront of the conversation.

Other countries like Switzerland, Scotland, Wales and Austria have already decided to make the move and allow teenagers to vote in national elections.

Late last year, the New Zealand Supreme Court ruled that not allowing 16- and 17- year olds to vote is discriminatory, forcing the government to consider changing the law.

At the head of the campaign is Make it 16 Australia, a non-partisan organisation founded and run by teenaged Australians to change voting rights in Australia to give 16- and 17-year-olds the right to vote.

Student Edge sat down with Archie Coppola, Co-Founder and Youth Action Group for Make it 16 Australia to shed some more light on the situation.
