In Honour of ‘Materialists’, We’re Shouting Out Our Fave Love Triangles in Movie & TV History

Because let’s be real, who could choose between Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans?
We’re suckers for a good rom-com and amongst all the Marvel movies and Mission Impossibles coming out, it feels like cinema has been lacking a little bit in the romance department.
What happened to guys holding a boom box outside a girls window or kissing in the rain or reciting a poem to a guy that you’re in love with and telling him ten things you hate about him?
Materialists is all about New York City local Lucy (Dakota Johnson) and her matchmaking business. While she’s spent years setting up successful marriages, now she finds herself torn between rich bachelor Harry (Pedro Pascal) and her imperfect but trying-his-best ex, John (Chris Evans).
Who doesn’t love a good love triangle moment? Girl meets boy…and then another boy and chaos ensues.
Scroll through the list below to relive some of the most memorable love triangles in movie and TV:
The Summer I Turned Pretty

This book-to-series adaptation follows Belly (Lola Tung) fall in love with two brothers – Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). It’s all about how they navigate their feelings for each other while still trying to preserve their relationship.
We also don’t know how this love triangle is going to end as the third season will only be released on Prime on 16 July!
Challengers

When the trailer for Challengers first dropped, the internet went crazy (and got a lot of us suddenly interested in tennis!). This flick follows Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), tennis player turned coach, and her complicated relationship with two ex-best friends Art (Mike Faist) and Patrick (Josh O’Connor). It goes from past to present and it’s a whirlwind of emotions and betrayal set to an incredible soundtrack.
The Hunger Games

Okay, so this love triangle is definitely the least important part of the plot in The Hunger Games series but you can’t deny that it’s iconic. If you wanna look deeper into it then you can think of it as Katniss’s choice between two paths: rebellion fueled by anger with Gale (Liam Hemsworth) or one for hope and compassion with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson).
Bridget Jones’s Diary

Who could forget one of the most famous love triangles? This movie follows Bridget writing in her diary focusing on how she wants to change her life. After two romantic encounters, her perspective changes drastically and she’s torn between Mark (Colin Firth) and Daniel (Hugh Grant).
Never Have I Ever

While Devi sets out to make it her high school mission to get with Paxton – which she succeeds in – she also dates her frenemy and academic rival Ben at the same time. Unfortunately, both guys end up finding out and the rest of the show sees Devi navigate her feelings for both of them.
The Office

Although Jim and Karen (Rashida Jones) start a relationship in Season 3, but it ultimately falls apart because Jim still has feelings for Pam. He eventually chooses to pursue Pam, leading to their eventual wedding, while Karen is left behind in New York. She later reappears in Season 5, revealing to Pam that she is happily married and expecting a child.
Glee

There were a lot of relationships throughout the course of Glee and one that stuck out the most (and probably one of the most iconic couples from the show) was Brittany and Santana. It was also one of the first times we saw LGBTQ representation on a major TV show plus navigating the complications of coming out. However, before they ended up together, Brittany was dealing with her feelings for both Santana and Artie before ultimately ending up with Santana by the end of the series.
