Look Who’s Playing Sonic the Hedgehog in His Very Own Movie

FYI, it’s Ben Schwartz.

Up to this exact moment in time, we were pretty skeptical about a Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

We’d previously learnt that the iconic SEGA character would appear in a standalone film that was part live-action and part animation, which, traditionally, is the wooooorst.

It was also revealed that Jim Carrey—a man these days less known for making good cinematic decisions and better appreciated for having slipped far from the realm of relatable human consciousness—would be playing the villainous Dr. Robotnik.

Our expectations were low.

But today comes news—courtesy of Variety—that sends our expectations unreasonably high.

I. LOVE. 90S. BLUE. ICONIC. CHARACTERS. I am beyond excited about this movie. It’s gonna be amazing. I have been training by running, wagging my finger and impatiently tapping my foot. GOTTA GO FAST! https://t.co/SOYqgnf3ym

Voicing the animated Sonic the Hedgehog is none other than Ben Schwartz, from House of Lies, countless Comedy Bang Bang podcasts (solo bolo!) and, most importantly, Parks and Recreation, where he played the infuriating Jean-Ralphio, who lives on via GIFs every day of our life on the internet.

Deadpool director Tim Miller will executive produce the film, which will be directed by Jeff Fowler. It’s set to hit cinemas November of 2019.

Now, please enjoy these Jean-Ralphio GIFs, which accurately convey our feelings on Schwartz’s casting.
