A Little Kid Hugged Carmelo Anthony, And Then Two People Lost Their Jobs

Don’t do hugs, people.

Last week, a little New York Knicks-loving tyke rushed the court at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans to give star player Carmelo Anthony a hug.

It was adorable.

Unfortunately, the management of the Smoothie King Center didn’t think it was quite so cute, firing an usher and relieving a local police officer (tasked with working Pelicans home games) from his duties as a result.

(Did the order come down from the Smoothie King himself? When will his iron rule come to an end?!)

According to Mashable, the usher and police officer were out of position when the lil’ Knicks fan dashed onto the court.

Though tragedy was avoided this time around, the threat of a more nefarious court-crasher in the future inspired management to take action.

As a result of the incident, staff were shown video of Monica Seles being stabbed in the back by a tennis-goer, mid-match, in 1993.

Yes, sometimes stories about little kids hugging their heroes ends on a total bummer of a note. They just do.
