Laura Jayes Takes Down Eddie McGuire For Nailing "Racist, Homophobic And Sexist" Trifecta

“We need to talk about Eddie.”

Sky News presenter Laura Jayes has slammed Eddie McGuire for his questionable comments (well, his most recent set of questionable comments) on her aptly-titled program The Latest.

“Eddie has achieved the trifecta. He’s been racist, homophobic and sexist," she said, "When is enough enough?”

Though John Oliver is nowhere in sight, we’re inclined to call it a devastating take down/ utter annihilation, and she did it all by using McGuire’s own words against him.

“The King Kong joke about Adam Goodes,” her list of McGuire’s offenses begins.

“Homophobic jokes comparing ice-skating to Brokeback Mountain. He called Victorian sports minister a ‘soccer-loving, Turkish-born *****’. And, he asked when the best time to bone Jessica Rowe was.”

For those coming to the story late… welcome? Last week, McGuire made a “““joke””” (we can’t put enough quotation marks around the word ‘joke’, truthfully) about football journo Caroline Wilson, saying he would pay $50,000 to see her drowned in ice water for a charity event.

Wilson – and most who heard the “““jibe””” – did not appreciate the comments. In an article for The Age, she wrote, “this sort of sexist nonsense has long been an acceptable part of his occasionally violent vernacular but I don't accept that it's jokey or banter.”

(Even the government has chimed in, with Social Services Minister Christian Porter saying "those comments from Mr McGuire were incredibly disappointing" and "they stand as a lesson for all of us in positions of seniority, particularly those positions that are influential on young boys to be incredibly influential on young boys.")

McGuire apologised on Monday, saying “[I’m] really disappointed that these comments have led to these feelings from people.” Jayes isn’t buying it.

“Does anyone really believe that he actually gets it?" she asked.

"Those accusing Eddie of condoning or encouraging domestic violence, I think is frankly taking it a bit too far.

“But the bullying and intimidation of a female journalist in a male-dominated arena being fobbed off as a bit of ‘banter’ is the most offensive part of it all."

Slay (that's what the internet says before these "take-downs", right?):

“Whether Eddie likes it or not, he has a special responsibility. He clearly sees it as his job to be controversial and entertaining. The sad truth is he’s supported by a Praetorian guard of enablers who pay lip service to such incidents, but only when shamed into doing so. Why do we give voice to idiots and nutjobs?”

News emerged today that Holden is discussing “the future” of their sponsorship with the Collingwood Football Club (of which McGuire is club president).

You have to wonder what price Eddie will have to pay for his comments this time.
