Lady Gaga Dominated the 2020 VMAs, Exactly Like She Did a Decade Ago

We can never forget the meat dress.

Despite social distancing restrictions halting most live performances and events across the globe, the 2020 MTV Music Video Awards still went ahead.

Of course, things looked significantly different (and more dystopian) this year. Winners had to accept prizes over video or in isolation, and there was no live audience for artists to sing in front of.

Instead, there was a fake audience that kind of freaked viewers out.

Regardless, it was still exciting to see some of our favourite artists perform and accept their well-deserved VMA award statues.

This year, Lady Gaga was the big winner, walking away with five awards. Three of her trophies were shared with Ariana Grande for their collaborative track "Rain On Me", including Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Cinematography.

Gaga also took home Artist of the Year and was honoured with the first-ever TriCon Award for her work as a musician, actress, philanthropist, fashion influence and more.

The awards come as no surprise, especially considering the massive year the singer has had with releasing her sixth studio album Chromatica.

Fans have taken to Twitter to express how ecstatic they are that Gaga won big.

Although, this isn't the first time that Gaga has dominated the VMAs.

A decade ago at the 2010 VMAs, she picked up seven awards for her song "Bad Romance", including Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, Best Dance Music Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Editing. Additionally, she also won Best Collaboration for "Telephone" ft. Beyoncé.

Perhaps that awards ceremony is etched into your memory, because that was the year Gaga wore the infamous meat dress, and asked Cher to hold her "meat purse" while she gave her acceptance speech.

Yes, the dress was made of real meat.

In fact, according to Wikipedia, the material used was raw flank steak.

It is safe to say that Gaga definitely, uh, toned down her fashion choices for the 2020 VMAs. However, her costumes are always pretty eccentric.

She had a number of costume changes during her Chromatica medley, which included a performance of "Rain On Me" alongside Ariana Grande, but mainly opted for a latex look by Vex Clothing.

The artist also stressed the importance of wearing a mask during the coronavirus pandemic. We just want to know when one of the designs she wore during the night will be available in stores.

Basically, Gaga is still absolutely killing it a whole decade later. We simply have no choice but to stan.
