Krispy Kreme Have Shared How to Make Original Glazed Waffles for International Waffle Day

I promise this counts as breakfast.

Each year on 25 March, foodies all over come together to stuff their faces with dough, butter and maple syrup to celebrate International Waffle Day. (If you’re a pancake person, you have my deepest sympathies.)

International Waffle Day is a Swedish, Norwegian and Danish tradition that also marks the Feast of Annunciation, a day on which waffles are a very popular dish.

Basically, now is your best excuse to get away with eating a dessert food first thing in the morning. And in 2021, a few of our favourite dessert stores are helping us achieve this important goal.

This year, Krispy Kreme graced Instagram to reveal an almighty Original Glazed Doughnut waffle stack.

That’s right, the team at Krispy Kreme got together, waffle ironed a bunch of their famous doughnuts, drizzled them in syrup and snapped a pic for Instagram without warning. I was not prepared.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an announcement for a new menu item. Instead, it includes a set of instructions on how you can make the doughnut waffle stack for yourself at home.

Bit sad about it, but I’ll take what I can get.

As Krispy Kreme pointed out, here are the steps you'll need to take:

Step 1: Pick up some Original Glazed Doughnuts in-store (take-away), through drive-thru, from a 7-Eleven or with UberEATS.

Step 2: Carefully place your Original Glazed Doughnuts in a waffle press (just mind the heat, okay?).

Step 3: Press your doughnuts until they're as crispy, flat and golden as you so desire. Stay close by as it doesn't take long.

Step 4: Carefully remove your waffle doughnuts with utensils (the glaze can get really hot!) and enjoy.

Where else can I celebrate International Waffle Day?

If Krispy Kreme is a little out of your reach, there are a few other dessert joints around Oz that can help you fix that craving today.

Baskin Robbins

First off, Baskin Robbins are celebrating International Waffle Day on their socials and are encouraging peeps to come in and grab a Belgian waffle covered in choc fudge sauce and World Class Chocolate ice cream.

Geláre

This wouldn’t be an article about waffles if we didn’t include Geláre.

While they aren’t doing anything specific for International Waffle Day this year, you are always guaranteed delicious, massive waffles covered in cream and an ice cream of your choice from Geláre, all year round.

Coles and Woolies

If your can't be bothered threshold is at an all-time low, you can always just head to Woolies or Coles and grab yourself some pre-cooked or frozen waffles and heat them up at home.

Who doesn’t love eating sugary foods while no one is watching?

Both supermarkets have waffles on sale from Golden and Toscano, and Woolies also have a selection from Waffle Co.

So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and feed your face. Happy International Waffle Day!
