Serial's back in time to fill your Teacher's Pet void.

If you've managed to get through the nearly 16 distressing hours of Sydney-based true crime podcast, The Teacher's Pet, you're probably looking for something else to sink some time into.

Luckily for you, the third season of Serial has been released just in time for you to dedicate your school or work commutes to.

This season will ditch the usual single case investigation and instead focus on cases that have been through a court in United States' Cleveland.

So, it's not strictly a true crime serial anymore, but let's be honest, the main reason we love it so much is because of one key ingredient: the host, Sarah Koenig.

The way Koenig weaves each investigation's narrative with her own personal thoughts is what makes Serial so rich and so addictive.

Serial is often credited for the resurgence of true crime podcasts after its first season generated intense interest in whether a convicted murderer, Adnan Syed, really was a murderer or an innocent man caught up in a flawed justice system.
