Jann Mardenborough Chats About Seeing His Life Portrayed in the Gran Turismo Movie

How well did Jann balance studying and gaming?... Maybe don't tell your 'rents his answer. 🤫

Imagine taking your love for gaming and turning it into a career.

We're not talking esports or becoming a big Twitch streamer though.

In 2011, 19 year old gamer Jann Mardenborough's gaming skills and love for the iconic PlayStation game Gran Turismo took him on the path to become a professional racing driver.

Sony Pictures' Gran Turismo, directed by Neil Blomkamp, released in cinemas this week. The film is based on Jann's story and the start of his career with GT Academy.

Archie Madekwe (Midsommar) plays Jann Mardenborough, with Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings) as motorsport exec Danny Moore and David Harbour (Stranger Things) plays Jann's trainer.

We got to sit down with the Jann Mardenborough to talk about what it's like to have a movie about his life and career.

We had to throw some questions out there for the gamers too, asking Jann what it was like seeing the game come to life on the big screen, and what kind of student he was.

Did he balance his studies well with his love for video games?

FYI, your parents probs won't like his answer so maybe don't show them... or do. We won't tell you what to do. 💅🏿

While racing movies aren't generally my go-to, as a gamer I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

I thought it might've just been the PlayStation fan in me talking, but Angelo from the Student Edge team - who knew nothing about the film - loved it.

"I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was watching the movie. That usually doesn't happen!"

Something we wished we knew before seeing Gran Turismo was that Jann was a stunt driver in the film too, playing himself.

The film will really get your heart racing (no pun intended) with its incredible sound design and inspiring story that shows anything is possible.

Don't forget if you're heading to the cinemas to nab your discounted HOYTS student tix!
