Inspiring Aussie Trans Influencers and Activists You Should Know About

Meet five local trans trailblazers 💙💗🤍💗💙
There is so much strength in being exactly who you are, even when the world tells you not to.
As allies, it's so important to engage and learn more about the experiences of trans people in our communities.
So, even though we should celebrate trans angels every day, we're using Transgender Day of Visibility to spotlight some incredible Australian trans folks in activism, social media, and on screen.

Meet Zoe – a 22-year-old non-binary/trans masculine actor and activist.
You might know them from Nine Perfect Strangers, Wentworth, or Ellie And Abbie (and Abbie’s Dead Aunt)
For the latter, they became the first non-binary actor in consideration for an AACTA award in the category of Lead Actor in a Feature Film.
They’re super passionate about trans representation in the arts and frequently speaks up for change.
They told IF back in 2019: “I’ve never seen a cis-gender person tell a transgender story 100 per cent believably… There is a level of authenticity in representation that comes when you have somebody who gets it, feels it in their bones and they have lived it.”

Meet Georgie – a trailblazing 21-year-old actress, activist, and Order of Australia medal holder.
You might recognise her as Mackenzie Hargreaves from Neighbours, where she fought for the role and became the first trans actor in a trans role on the show.
That’s not the only barrier she’s broken – at 10-years-old, Georgie was the youngest person to receive hormone blockers in Australia, which eventually inspired a change in the law. Now, she’s one of the most visible transgender people in Australia.

She’s sparked a new wave of education and acceptance among young Australians, becoming one of the biggest transgender voices in Australia.
On creating trans visibility, she told Frank Body: “[It’s] so important to me because I never had that. I’m proud that I can say I contributed to creating more awareness.”

As the first transgender person in Australia to enter the world of competitive Irish dancing, he told id.globe: “Visibility saves lives. Representation leads to acceptance, it creates positive change. I wish that I’d seen someone like me in Irish dance growing up.”
Happy Transgender Day of Visibility! Here I am being a visible trans. To all my trans siblings out there, you are all beautiful humans, today is our day! Let’s celebrate our existence pic.twitter.com/SNBwDCTbj0
